Our History

  • OUR HISTORY

    The Directorate of Science & Technology, Assam was established in the year 1983, on the recommendation of the Planning Commission, Government of India, initially operating with limited staff and officers. Initially, it functioned within the department itself with an Ex-officio Director tasked with coordinating the application of Science & Technology to achieve the socio-economic objectives of the Government. The Director, of Science & Technology, Assam was subsequently designated as the Head of the Department by Government order with the concurrence of the Finance Department. The Directorate has commenced its independent operation from 1st June, 1996.

    During the Financial Year 2003-2004, the subject “Environment” was transferred to the Forest Department, leading to the Directorate being renamed as Directorate of Science & Technology, Government of Assam. The Drawing and Diminishing Officer (D.D.O) powers of the Director, Science & Technology were reinstated effective 1st April/2014 as per Government order.
